Pentagon gives green light for BlackBerry's BES 12
BlackBerry has been granted a key security clearance for its mobile management platform.
The Canadian phone maker said Tuesday it had achieved STIG (Security Technical Implementation Guides) approval, allowing users of its BES 12 enterprise software coupled with BlackBerry 10.3.2 to carry out limited low-level classified work.
David Kleidermacher, chief security officer, said security remains "one of the top priorities for our government customers."
"BlackBerry believes that security should be an enabler of productivity and collaboration in both the public and private sector. This achievement also provides confidence to our global enterprise customers when deploying the secure BlackBerry multi-OS EMM portfolio throughout their organizations," he said in remarks.
The company, which at its last earnings call in April missed Wall Street expectations, has been repositioning itself as a security software and mobile device management provider.
BlackBerry said that it now has more than 80 government certifications and approvals.
