IBM on December 6 rolled out a new Bluemix cloud service that will help developers quickly build, monitor, and scale out the toolchains needed to drive app development.

The service, Bluemix Continuous Delivery, automatically integrates with tools from third parties like GitHub and Slack, as well as open source and IBM tools. Manually integrating tools together can take hours or days.

With the new service, developers can also exploit toolchain templates to scale toolchains across their enterprise with just a few mouse clicks. Some templates already available include toolchains for building microservices, containers, and cloud-native applications.

Continuous Delivery also offers a Delivery Pipeline, which automates builds, tests, and deployments. Additionally, it taps into IBM's Availability Monitoring service to ensure applications are always available and performing as expected as developers roll out updates.

"One of the biggest challenges developers face In today's cloud-led world is quickly building and deploying applications to stay competitive," IBM vice president Dave Lindquist said in a statement. "With the introduction of BlueMix Continuous Delivery, developers can not only rapidly create, integrate and share DevOps toolchains using their favorite tools, but also quickly add powerful new services like cognitive computing with Watson or data and analytics services from The Weather Company."

A recent survey of IT executives found that DevOps is moving beyond the bounds of IT departments and is now embraced across the enterprise. At the Amazon Web Services re:Invent conference last week, AWS unveiled its own series of DevOps tools, and Amazon CTO Werner Vogels stressed that development and testing is the key to building a fast-moving, agile business.
